These bars have been a holiday favorite since my mom found the recipe in a magazine back in the ’70s. Nothing screams Christmas for me quite like Magic Bars!
The original recipe calls for just chocolate chips, but y’all know me, I am going to adjust the recipe. I started using chocolate chips and butterscotch chips over 25 years ago. Don’t be afraid to adjust the amount of any ingredient. If you like more nuts, add them. If you like less chocolate, reduce it.
1 stick of butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
3 oz coconut
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350.
While the oven is heating, place the butter in a 9×13 pan. Place in the oven to melt. Once the butter is melted, remove from oven and stir in cracker crumbs. Press evenly in pan.
Add remaining ingredients in layers in order listed above, distributed evenly.
Return pan to oven and bake for about 35 minutes or until coconut just starts to turn golden.
