Devils Food Cake with Chocolate Frosting

This is the best chocolate cake! I have had more than one person, adults, not children, tell me that they dream about this cake. Having a cake mix as its base makes it super easy, too!

 

Devils Food Cake

 

1 devils food cake mix with pudding in it

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

1 1/3 cups buttermilk

1/2 cup oil

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

 

Preheat oven to 350.

Grease two 9″ round cake pans with shortening and flour or spray with Baker’s Joy.

Place all of the ingredients in mixing bowl. Blend with electric mixer until well mixed. Do not over beat.

Divide batter between the two pans evenly.

Bake for 28-32 minutes.

Remove from oven. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pans. Cool completely.

 

Frosting:

1 cup unsweetened cocoa

1/2 cup hot water

1 1/2 sticks butter, room temperature

4 cups powdered sugar

1/2 tablespoon vanilla

 

Combine cocoa & water. Allow to cool a bit or the butter will melt when added.

Add butter & blend with mixer.

Add powdered sugar one cup at a time.

Add vanilla.

Beat on high until light & fluffy.
