History of Mashed Potatoes
If one was forced by the twisting of the arm to choose one item to get rid of on their Thanksgiving plate on Thursday, some people might choose turkey, and some others might choose cranberries, but I promise you nobody—and I mean nobody—would choose the mashed potatoes. Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe
- 3 1/3 lbs red or russet potatoes
- 6-7 cloves of fresh garlic
- 1 large can evaporated milk
- 1 stick butter
- black pepper
- Peel & rinse the potatoes. Thinly slice into a large pot. Cover with water. Add 1 tablespoon salt. Set pot on stove & turn heat to med high.
- While potatoes are starting to heat, peel garlic. Mince the cloves into the pot with the potatoes.
- Bring the potatoes & garlic to a boil. Cook until potato slices pierce easily with a fork & start to break apart.
- When potatoes are done, turn off the heat & drain them in a colander.
- While the potatoes drain, place the pot back on the stove. Place the stick of butter & evaporated milk into the pot so that the butter begins to melt & milk begins to warm.
- Place the drained potatoes back in the pot. Add salt & pepper to taste. Mash with a potato masher or use a handheld electric mixer. Add more milk, if needed.
